Mosiah 4:22

And if ye judge the man who putteth up his petition to you for your substance that he perish not, and condemn him, how much more just will be your condemnation for withholding your substance, which doth not belong to you but to God, to whom also your life belongeth; and yet ye put up no petition, nor repent of the thing which thou hast done.

If God has blessed me with resources, it is not to make me comfortable and complacent. Rather, it is for me to use those gifts to bless others. If we see clearly, we recognize that nothing we have is really ours. We may have stewardship, but we do not have ownership. We are to use our resources and not horde them and make ourselves comfortable with them. This is the meaning of the parable of the rich man who had a bountiful harvest. Rather than use his excess to help others, he simply built a bigger barn in which to store his harvest so he could retire early and live comfortably the rest of his life. Unfortunately for him, the rest of his life ended that night. What good was it to gain the whole world and lose his soul?
