Mormon 9:29

See that ye are not baptized unworthily; see that ye partake not of the sacrament of Christ unworthily; but see that ye do all things in worthiness, and do it in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God; and if ye do this, and endure to the end, ye will in nowise be cast out.

Proper actions are important. Proper actions for the right reasons are essential. To serve God most effectively, we must be in tune with the Holy Spirit so we can receive guidance and direction, and therefore we must be worthy. Worthy does not mean perfect, but it means that we are trying in humility, constantly repenting. To act in the name of Christ is to do what he would do the way he would do it for the reasons he would do it. That takes revelation, and revelation comes only to those who are worthy.
