When we are thankful and full of gratitude, we are more inclined to sacrifice from our abundance. It can also work the other way: when we sacrifice from our abundance, we can grow more thankful for what we have. If we are missing the spirit of gratitude in our life, a willing sacrifice will bring us the sense of thankfulness we may be missing.

First Nephi 5:9
And it came to pass that they did rejoice exceedingly, and did offer sacrifice and burnt offerings unto the Lord; and they gave thanks unto the God of Israel.
