Moroni 10:29
And God shall show unto you, that that which I have written is true.
Moroni appeals to God to prove his words. Or rather, he challenges us to look to God to prove that his writings are true. He knows the source of the truths he had written, and he directs us to go to that source to learn for ourselves. We do not have to take the word of any human. We can appeal to God himself. Moroni promises that God will give us an answer. No other book in the world makes such a bold assertion. No other book claims that God will testify of it. The test is infallible. The results are miraculous.

Mormon 8:35
Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing.
Moroni knew exactly to whom he was writing. He has described perfectly the days in which we live, for he saw them in living color. Heavenly Father knew exactly when he would send the Book of Mormon among his children. We can take some comfort, in spite of the disasters and perplexities around us, that God knows us and our situation. He has given us the Book of Mormon as a sign of his love. He knows us, what we need, and how to rescue us. This book is proof we are not alone.

Helaman 16:20
But behold, we know that this is a wicked tradition, which has been handed down unto us by our fathers, to cause us that we should believe in some great and marvelous thing which should come to pass, but not among us, but in a land which is far distant, a land which we know not; therefore they can keep us in ignorance, for we cannot witness with our own eyes that they are true.
Physical proof is always demanded by those who refuse faith. The thing is, when they get the proof they demand, they do not accept it. Signs, wonders, and miracles are happening all around these people, and they dismiss the prophecies as lucky guesses. This is a lesson for us to learn about the Book of Mormon. Many people claim they would believe the Book of Mormon if they could only see the gold plates. But the reality is that they would only try to prove that the plates are a fraud. We first choose to believe, and then we are strengthened by evidence. Evidence never produces faith. It may catch our attention, but sooner or later we must make a conscious choice regardless of the evidence.
