Lehi's answer came immediately after he prayed. He did not have to beg and plead endlessly to receive mercy. The Lord was instant with his help. The spacious field of hope was practically in reach the whole time. Lehi just needed eyes to see it. The Lord did not miraculously make the field appear. He just enabled Lehi to see what had been his deliverance all along.

First Nephi 8:9
And it came to pass after I had prayed unto the Lord I beheld a large and spacious field.
