And behold, the record of this people is engraven upon plates which is had by the kings, according to the generations; and I know of no revelation save that which has been written, neither prophecy; wherefore, that which is sufficient is written. And I make an end.
Abinadom's conclusion sounds very modern. God has stopped sending prophets and revelation, so he must not have anything more to say. What has already been written is enough. It did not occur to him that maybe God was through talking because his people had stopped listening.
