And it came to pass that I was overcome because of my afflictions, for I considered that mine afflictions were great above all, because of the destruction of my people, for I had beheld their fall.
We are afflicted and pained when those we love suffer. A parent's heart breaks when a child goes astray, and they seriously grieve. The atonement of Christ can eventually heals our grief, even a sorrow as deep as for the loss of a loved one, be it temporal or spiritual.
