Second Nephi 28:4
And they shall contend one with another; and their priests shall contend one with another, and they shall teach with their learning, and deny the Holy Ghost, which giveth utterance.
The teachings of men are speculative in nature. Without the Holy Ghost to reveal and confirm truth, how can we have confidence in their words? Thus we get councils and creeds created by committees and canonized by a majority vote. When no prophet is present to say, "Thus saith the Lord," absolute truth cannot be known.
