Yea, he saith: Come unto me and ye shall partake of the fruit of the tree of life; yea, ye shall eat and drink of the bread and the waters of life freely;
The bread and water of life - Christ's love and mercy - are gifts. No amount of pious works from us can buy them. We cannot earn salvation. We cannot pay the price. But we must choose the gift that is offered on the conditions by which it is offered, and those conditions are by doing our best and humbly repenting when we fail.
