Now Satan had gotten great hold upon the hearts of the people of the city of Ammonihah; therefore they would not hearken unto the words of Alma.
Satan had great hold on the city because the people had invited him in and given themselves over to him. Nevertheless, Satan cannot control anything we do not willingly give to him. He wants us to think we have lost our agency when we step into his camp, but we always retain the ability to choose. It may get locked in a heart as hard as concrete, but God will bring a jackhammer if we invite him in.
